Kuhn Maßkonfektion
Challenge
The new Kuhn Maßkonfektion store in Leipzig is located in a listed building with a striking sandstone façade, high arched windows and detailed stucco ceilings right in the heart of the city center. The biggest challenge was not only to preserve this historical substance, but also to integrate it into the store concept in terms of design. The defining architectural elements such as stucco, massive vaulted arches and the original internal staircase were not allowed to be altered or covered up. Added to this was the technical complexity: classic ceiling lighting was not possible due to the listed building status. The lighting concept therefore had to be solved entirely using alternative light sources. At the same time, it was necessary to create a high-quality and clear sense of space on two levels with limited retail space that was both functional and atmospheric.

The implementation was carried out in close coordination with the construction management and the requirements of the monument protection authorities. The floor plan was structured in such a way that the generous spatial effect was retained and all functional areas were optimally integrated: Reception, measuring, changing room, consultation, fabric selection and lounge. The interior follows the typical KUHN design language. High-quality, calm, handcrafted. Central eye-catchers such as the backlit large-format picture and florally decorated counter islands add atmosphere and depth to the room. All built-in furniture was planned individually, tailored to the existing room axes, proportions and architectural conditions.
Highlights
Highlights include the stylish integration of the historic staircase as a connecting element between the two levels, the accentuated lighting via furniture and wall lights and the harmonious interplay between the classic structure and modern made-to-measure clothing. The fabric product worlds - from outer fabrics to linings and accessories - are presented in a clear and high-quality manner. In terms of color, the store focuses on calm, muted tones combined with natural materials and soft textures. The gallery level offers an exclusive consultation and lounge zone with comfortable armchairs and a view over the sales area.
